Almost there...

Well, our profile was approved.  The file we attached previously was formatted to look a little prettier.  Unfortunately it is a PDF file, so I haven't figured out how to post it here, but you can get an idea with the previous one we posted as it's the same content.  We've also ordered our profile book.  It's pretty much a scrapbook of more photos of us, family, & friends. It contains our letter to the birth mother and captions for the photos. It's also very anonymous as to places and names, but it's meant to give the birth parents a broader idea of who we are. After a match is made, birth mom can keep it as a keepsake. They say this gives her more of a feeling of connection to us and the baby.  Once our agency receives the books (according to FedEx it will be Friday), we will officially be marketed out to other agencies.

We also had a conference call with the agency's social worker, Jo Ann, who is involved in the matching process. She gave us a lot of good information about what to expect. It answered a lot of our questions.  While they can't really give us a specific answer about timing, she made it clear that there's the possibility that we could be matched very quickly.  Of course there's also the possibility it could take a while, only time will tell.

Jo Ann also gave us a link to a free resource for information about teratogens, or substances that can lead to physical or mental problems for the baby.  This will allow us to do our own research when we're presented with different situations.  The resources we were given allow us to talk to specialists who can discuss the risks of different substance exposures with us.

For now, our job is to start looking into Ohio adoption attorneys.  The agency gave us a list of recommended lawyers throughout Ohio. We will need one for various hearings including finalizing the adoption.  If our baby comes from out of state, we will need to find a lawyer in that state.  We will be able to consult with the local agency for references if that is the case.

This process never ceases to be overwhelming, but we're really excited and know it will be worth it in the end. Besides, isn't having children always overwhelming?

Thanks to all of you for all of your love and support.  The support we've received has been amazing. We count ourselves lucky to have such wonderful family and friends.

Kristy & Matt
